Storytimes Galore

School Readiness

Right now I am only consistently doing one type of storytime.  The School Readiness Storytime for ages 3-5 is the one I do twice a week.  I have really gotten used to it’s format and have started a new way for me to develop as a storytimer.  I have started a once a month storytime challenge.  So far I have tried these new things:

  • Wordless Books
  • New Challenging Songs
  • Use of Puppets
  • New Fingerplays
  • Flannelboard Stories
  • Having the kids be a bit more orderly (making lines)

All of these above have been my latest challenges for School Readiness.  Some of them have a been a challenge for me and also for my kids.

On top of the School Readiness Storytimes, I am excited to announce that I will be covering when I am needed for the Baby Toddler Storytimes and the 2’s and 3’s Storytimes.  I have been frantically learning new fingerplays, songs, and the different books I can read for these ages.  I have to admit that it has been challenging for me.  I have watched several example storytimes and I am nearly ready for them.  Over the summer last year I helped with similar storytimes and I am excited to do them again.  I have several things that I want to try.  Some of them are:

  • Scarves
  • Bubbles (and lots of them)
  • Mother Goose (ones that I haven’t tried)
  • Different lapsit songs/rhymes
